Patat Law Firm has extensive experience assisting individuals and couples with their estate planning needs.

A basic complete estate plan includes a will, a healthcare power of attorney, and a durable power of attorney. We also use living wills depending on your individual wishes. The will speaks as of your death and tells the Probate Court what you want to happen to your estate and who you want to serve as your children's guardian. The healthcare power of attorney allows someone to make medical decisions for you when you are alive but unable to make those decisions for yourself. The durable power of attorney allows someone to make other decisions (such as financial, insurance, etc.) for you when you are alive but unable to decide these things yourself. The living will is also called a declaration for desire of natural death, and allows you to direct whether you want life sustaining treatment if you are at the end of your natural life.

The estate planning process begins with an initial consultation to discuss what documents and assets you have, what documents you need, and what you want those documents to say. Once we discuss everything, we will draft the documents, explain them and answer any questions you have, and have you sign. When you are comfortable with everything, we schedule a time for you to come in to sign, and we take care of all witnesses, notaries, and copies.

We would welcome the opportunity to work with you and to walk you through this crucial process.
